The Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund (CCSF)

Summary

CCSF awards are for postgraduate academic and artistic studies in the UK, and are exclusively for students who have already commenced their postgraduate programme of study in the UK.

 

Description

The Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund (CCSF), established in 1967, has awarded c£1,000,000 in scholarships to some 500 talented Canadians studying at over 40 different universities, colleges and conservatories across the UK. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic or artistic excellence and their ability to represent Canada in the UK. Awards are granted to scholars from a wide range of disciplines including science, engineering, social science and humanities as well as music, creative arts and design.

 

The CCSF plans to grant a number of £5,000 awards for the academic year commencing September 2020.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a CCSF award, an applicant must:

 

Be a Canadian citizen with a valid Canadian passport: proof of Canadian citizenship is required in the form of a pdf of the main page of your valid passport. You may be asked to bring this document with you if you are shortlisted for interview.

Be currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme (or equivalent) and at the time of applying be attending a full-time UK university or similar institution, and have completed at least one full-time term of study, with at least one full-time term remaining from September 2020. (Applicants undertaking a one-year programme are not eligible.)

Be able to demonstrate academic excellence.

Require funds to complete their studies.

Previous applicants may re-apply. The CCSF offers a maximum of two scholarships to any one individual.

Hertz Fellowship

Location: United States

The annual competition for Graduate Fellowships begins with the application period which opens each year in August at which time a deadline consistent with those of NSF and other fellowship granting organizations will be posted. Only those applications which are complete, with all supporting materials and documents provided (including Reference Reports) by the posted deadline will be assured of full consideration by the Foundation. Untimely or incompletely-submitted applications will be entertained only at the Foundation's discretion and convenience.

Each year's competition concludes at the end of the following March, at which time the Foundation's Board of Directors determines the most highly qualified Fellowship applicants and the number of new Fellowships which available resources will be able to support.

Candidates for the Eric Bleumink Fund should:

  1. Have obtained conditional admission to the program of choice (see: www.rug.nl/masters/alphabetical )
  2. Have excellent academic performance, preferably to be confirmed by letters of recommendation
  3. Have excellent grades during their bachelor/undergraduate studies;
  4. Have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the program of choice
  5. Be available for the whole period of the programme and be able to take part in the entire programme
  6. Be in good health, so that health insurance in the Hold the nationality of a country appearing in Appendix 1.
  7. Have no other means of financing the study in question
 

The grant is awarded for a 1 year or 2 years Master’s degree programme.

The grant covers tuition fee, costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.  Please note that a considerable number of students apply for this scholarship each year, whereas the University can issue only a limited number of grants.

ETH Zurich supports excellent masterstudents with two scholarship programmes:

The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) supports students with a scholarship, mentorship and a network of the ETH Foundation. The scholarship covers the full study and living costs during the Master’s degree course.

The Master Scholarship Programme (MSP) contains a partial stipend as well as additional offers by the Department (assistantship or additional scholarship).

Eligibility

The scholarship programmes are open to excellent students (national and international) wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich.

Prerequisites

- very good result in Bachelor’s degree programme (top 10% of Bachelor’s degree programme = grade A)

- Reachability under the specified telephone number (The selection process includes a (Skype) interview in February)

Scholarship amount and duration

The Excellence Scholarship consists of a grant covering living and study expenses (CHF 12'000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver. The scholarship starts with the Master’s degree programme and is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme (three or four semesters). It is awarded independently of the scholarship holder’s financial situation.

The Master Scholarship consists of a partial stipend for living and study expenses (CHF 6'000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver. The department can additionally provide a scholarship of CHF 1'500 - 3'000 per semester or offer an assistantship (with a payment of CHF 500 - 600 per month).

The scholarship starts with the Master’s degree programme and is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme (three or four semesters). It is awarded independently of the scholarship holder’s financial situation. The Master Scholarship Programme requires a financial contribution from the scholarship holder in the range of CHF 3'000/year.

Selection

The applications are evaluated by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programmes. The final decision for awarding scholarships in the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme and in the Master Scholarship Programme rests with the Rector of the ETH. The number of annual scholarships depends on the availability of funds. The decisions are communicated approx. mid of March.

This need-and-merit-based award recognizes international undergraduate students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, involvement in student affairs and community service, and recognized achievement in other key areas.

The value of your Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award is proportional to your financial need. Financial need is determined by totalling tuition, fees, and living costs, and subtracting the financial contribution you and your family can make each year. A standard needs assessment is based on the financial information provided by you and your family.

Your award may be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion – whichever comes first – provided you achieve satisfactory academic standing in your faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and maintain your Canadian study permit (student visa).

Eligibility

To be considered for the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award:

  • You must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
  • You must be entering UBC from a recognized secondary school, college, or other university.
  • You must be applying for your first undergraduate degree.

  • You must demonstrate superior academic achievement (achieve all As or equivalent standard).

Yale University, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies-Fellowship

Doctoral students receive a School Fellowship which provides a stipend, health coverage, and tuition waiver for the first five years of their studies. For the 2019-2020 academic year, the stipend is $31,800.

Research position

The Christensen Fund Graduate Fellowship Program

Location: United States

The Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, in collaboration with The Christensen Fund, invites applications from suitably qualified, highly motivated graduates for fully funded masters and Ph.D. fellowships in plant conservation.

The purpose of The Christensen Fund Fellowship Program in Plant Conservation is to educate botanists who will become decision-makers in their home countries. The two to five year fellowships (depending on degree program) are designed to attract and support individuals from tropical countries who will return to their country or region following graduation and make a significant difference in the development and application of plant conservation programs.

Applicants for Christensen Fund Fellowships must have a bachelor's degree in biology and be able to demonstrate strong leadership and scientific potential in applied plant conservation. These fellowships are open to students from tropical countries in Central and South America, sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia, Malesia and Pacific Island countries.

The fellowships will provide recruitment and repatriation airfares, stipend, tuition fee waiver and the opportunity to apply for competitive research funds. Christensen Fund Fellows will be enrolled in the Ph.D. or M.S. graduate degree programs and will be involved in special courses, workshops, or internships designed to increase the Fellow’s capacity to make an impact in applied conservation once they return to their countries.
