Dr. M. Kanchan is a teacher of Finance and Accounting with the philosophy that Business School graduates’ learning should be more application-based than theoretical. Her teaching methodology is largely based on analysis of real-time financial statements of companies and situation analysis to help in decision making. She has conducted several workshops in the area of costing and managerial accounting for mid-level corporate managers and entrepreneurs. Her research interests lie in the area of governance and policy making activities which, during her tenure at Thapar University led to capacity building initiatives of Urban Local Bodies and municipal councils in the State of Himachal Pradesh such as strengthening the fiscal discipline, capacity building of stakeholders etc. During her stint as a Senior Researcher at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, her work pertained to the performance appraisal system of Public Sector Industries in India. Dr. Kanchan is also a case writer and has published cases in international journals.

I was the head of Centre for Learning Resource Development and Centre for Governance in association with Avanta Foundation. Responsibilities: ∑ Taught Corporate Finance and Financial and Managerial Accounting for the MBA program as well as guiding students on Advanced Management Research Program. ∑ As the Head of the PGP, I was in charge of the content development for the courses, conducting examinations and coordinating various academic activities of the school. ∑ As the Head of the Centre for Learning Resource Development, I had the responsibility of developing and assimilating various learning tools like case studies for enhancing the learning outcome and create a repository of cases to be accessible to business schools the world over. ∑ As the Head of Centre for Governance in collaboration with Avanta Foundation, I worked on projects on Urban Governance in respect to urban capacity building of Municipal Councils in Himachal Pradesh (HP). A Report on the efficiency on the municipal council finances has been submitted to the Government of HP. ∑ Conducted two workshops on ‘How to Write, Teach and Publish Cases’ in November 2015. ∑ Conducted a Management Development Program on ‘Strategic Cost Management’ for senior and middle management executives of SMEs of Dera Bassi, Punjab, on 13 May, 2016.
